Description

Grunasi Waterfall is one of the most breathtaking natural attractions in Theth National Park and the entire Albanian Alps. Recognized as a natural monument since 2002, it stands as a symbol of untouched beauty and geological wonder.

Located on the western slope of the Theth Valley, the waterfall begins at the base of Mount Boshi. It carves its way through a narrow limestone gorge before cascading dramatically from a height of 25 meters into a serene emerald pool below.

At the base, the water forms a natural pond that flows into the Theth Valley and joins the Shala River, marking the entrance of the spectacular Grunasi Canyon. The surrounding slope is draped in dense forest, and on sunny days, the mist from the waterfall often creates a vivid rainbow adding a magical touch to an already extraordinary setting.

This pristine environment is one of the most unique natural phenomena in the Albanian Alps, making Grunasi not just a scenic stop but a must see destination for nature lovers, hikers, and photographers alike. The waterfall’s pool offers a natural bath of crystal clear water, and the rocky paths nearby present an exciting challenge for experienced climbers seeking to reach the source of the falls.

How to Reach Grunasi Waterfall

The waterfall is located just outside Theth village, on the western side of the valley. It takes approximately 50 minutes to reach it from the village center.

The route begins with a 20 minute walk along the central river that winds through the valley, followed by about 30 minutes of moderately challenging hiking. Seasoned hikers can complete the round trip in roughly 1.5 hours.

The journey itself is a highlight filled with lush vegetation, mountain panoramas, and fresh water springs. And when you finally arrive, the view is nothing short of stunning often exceeding expectations with its raw natural beauty and peaceful ambiance.

Whether you’re seeking adventure or tranquility, Grunasi Waterfall offers a rewarding escape into the heart of the Albanian Alps.
